Fitness became my passion when I was diagnosed with postpartum depression. I decided that pills were not the answer. There had to be another way.....and there was. After listening to my husband preach to me about fitness and nutrition, I decided to give it a try. I didn't take long before I was absolutely addicted to it. I loved the way it made me feel and it gave me so much more energy. The best part....my postpartum depression was gone! Not only was I happier, but I felt a thousand times better.
I am a mother of three children and I have struggled with weight after giving birth to my second child. I know how hard it is to lose weight. I also know how quickly and drastically you can turn your life around.
I am a certified personal trainer through NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) and AFTA (American Fitness Training of Athletics). I am passionate about changing your life. I can and will push you past your comfort zone and make you a leaner, stronger, happier, and more self confident person. Nothing makes me happier than helping people achieve their fitness goals and improve their health. I will encourage you without intimidation and keep your spirits high along the road to fitness.
Growing up, I was active in sports, including springboard diving, swimming, skiing, gymnastics, weight training, and running. As an adult, it became more challenging to keep consistent with an exercise program as my growing family and a full-time job filled my time. My eating habits suffered and there seemed to be no time to make healthy meals. The combination of little to no exercise and poor diet led me to suffer weight gain, muscle and joint pain, fatigue, and health problems.
I listened to what my body was telling me and began making gradual changes in my exercise program and diet to improve my energy level and health. The weight loss, increased fitness, and wellness I have realized didn't happen overnight, but then again, the former state of my poor health didn't happen overnight, either. The investments I've made in regular exercise and healthy eating have paid off exponentially.
My certification through NASM has taught me to assess a client's level of conditioning and create goals that are reasonable and attainable. Together, we will design a progressive program that makes sense to you and creates a solid foundation of fitness from which to build to whatever level you desire. We will celebrate successes, learn to discover ways to overcome "setbacks," and work to bring increased fitness, balance, and wellness into your life. It's never too late to start making changes!
I am a Certified Personal Trainer through NETA (National Exercise Trainer's Association). I am currently completing the Fitness Trainer Program at Everest College in Fife, WA. (I graduate in mid August 2008.) Upon completion of this program, I will also be certified through NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) as a Certified Personal Trainer. I currently teach group exercise classes at 5th Avenue Fitness in downtown Olympia. In addition, I have a Bachelor's degree from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA where I was a three time varsity athlete in softball I continue to play softball in community recreational leagues, as well as soccer. As a high school athlete, I played volleyball, basketball and softball.
My personal training philosophy is to provide an individualized workout program for clients based on a foundation of education and motivation. I believe that workouts should be both challenging and fun, while working to achieve personal fitness goals. I have been active all my life and know from personal experience the power that physical activity and fitness have to transform lives. I strongly believe that outer and inner strength go hand in hand. My training motto is "Outer Strength, Inner Vitality". Having a healthy and strong body on the outside opens the door for greater inner strength and overall sense of well-being. Throughout my life, I have been happiest, felt the most alive and balanced when I am the most active and physically fit. My passion for fitness springs from this relationship between inner and outer strength. My mission and greatest joy as a personal trainer is helping clients find this great sense of strength and vitality by setting and achieving personal fitness goals.
As a boy I was always very active in sports, everything from soccer to baseball and everything in between. I was a very high energy youngster and sports and exercise seemed to be a very healthy outlet for me to channel this energy. Something you enjoy as a kid often becomes a passion when you are an adult, and that holds true to this day. In high school I continued playing sports, namely JV and Varsity soccer along with strength and conditioning classes. I loved the feeling of satisfaction whenever you reach a new tier and blow past your previous limitations. It is an intoxicating and addictive feeling that I would love to share with others. People who train hard for events and competitions understand this, but I want others to know that this isn't just for athletes. I want them to see that being fit, and enjoying both the physiological and psychological benefits is possible for anyone. That is why when I came to a crossroads of where I was wanting to lead my life career-wise I decided to take the path of helping people live and love fitness as I have.
Balance is a word I like to use frequently. I use it because to me it best sums up all the components of a happy and healthy lifestyle. We are not perfect, we are human. All of us have so many stressors in our lives it's easy to forget that we are human, and that our bodies as well as our minds can burn out. With good eating and frequent exercise we can start to bring balance back into our lives. Feeling in control, enjoying life again, and have fun while you're doing it! I am Certified Personal Trainer through NETA (National Exercise Trainers Association), and about to complete in mid-August the Fitness Trainer Program at Everest College in Fife, WA. Upon completion of this program, I will also be certified with NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association). By creating challenging but attainable goals, I want to help my clients reach new heights, shatter their pre-conceived limitations, and enjoy the rewards of these achievements that last a lifetime.
